Lidding film

Lidding film seals the top of a tray: the peelable or lock-sealed layer on ready meals, dairy pots and protein packs. It is an engineered laminate — commonly PET-based with a sealing layer matched to the tray material (APET, PP or PE-coated board), often with anti-fog for chilled display, sometimes barrier layers for shelf life.

The critical specification is the seal-peel pairing: peel strength is a property of the film-and-tray system, not the film alone, which is why suppliers ask what tray you run before quoting. Other points: thickness (typically 25–100 µm), print, anti-fog, barrier requirement. Mono-PET lidding on PET trays is the recycling-friendly direction of travel, keeping the whole pack in one polymer stream. Classified under HS 3920/3921 by construction.
