Certifications Explained
RecyClass, GRS, EuCertPlast, EN 15343 and chain of custody — what each scheme actually certifies, how our documentation chain works, and how to verify a certificate yourself in the public databases.
First, an honest framing
We are a trading company. We do not claim to hold RecyClass, GRS or EuCertPlast certification ourselves — those schemes certify recycling and manufacturing operations, and the correct statement, which appears throughout this site, is: our supply partners are certified, and every consignment ships with certificate-linked batch declarations. A trader claiming a plant certification should make you more suspicious, not less.
RecyClass
RecyClass, developed under Plastics Recyclers Europe, is the European reference framework with three distinct certifications — worth separating because suppliers blur them:
- Recycling Process certification — certifies a recycling plant's process and its computation of recycled content output. This is the certification most relevant to flake and pellet supply.
- Traceability certification — certifies chain-of-custody handling of recycled material through converters, based on EN 15343, so a claim on a finished product traces back to certified recyclate.
- Design for Recycling — assesses the recyclability of packaging designs; relevant to our customers' products rather than our inputs.
Audits are annual and conducted by approved certification bodies. Modules A/B/C in the traceability logic describe how far the chain extends: the recycler's output claim, the converter's input-output balance, and the finished product claim respectively — a chain, in which each link is separately auditable.
GRS and RCS
The Global Recycled Standard (and its lighter sibling, the Recycled Claim Standard) is a chain-of-custody standard administered by Textile Exchange, widely used by Turkish producers. GRS certifies recycled content percentages and adds social, environmental and chemical requirements at certified sites. A GRS transaction certificate accompanies goods between certified parties, which makes it a strong evidence document for tax and retailer purposes.
EuCertPlast
EuCertPlast certifies European plastics recyclers against EN 15343 traceability: input qualification, process control, output computation. Where a Turkish flake line holds EuCertPlast, its batch documentation plugs into the same audit logic European converters already use.
The standards underneath
- EN 15343 — the traceability and recycled-content calculation standard the schemes above operationalise.
- ISO 22095 — the general chain-of-custody framework defining models (identity preservation, segregation, mass balance, book-and-claim). Most physical plastic supply uses segregation or controlled blending; "mass balance" claims deserve scrutiny about which model is actually meant.
Our documentation chain, consignment by consignment
- Certificate on file — before we list a supply partner, its certificate (scheme, scope, expiry, certification body) is verified and archived.
- Batch declaration — each consignment carries a declaration stating recycled content %, pre-/post-consumer split, and the producer certificate number.
- Spec sheet — the lot's measured technical values, linking the physical goods to the paper.
- Retention — declarations and certificates are retained alongside the shipment file, so a customer audit two years later is a retrieval exercise, not an archaeology project.
Verify it yourself
Every scheme above operates a public register — RecyClass and EuCertPlast publish certified-company databases, and Textile Exchange lists GRS-certified organisations. Checking takes minutes: match the certificate number on our batch declaration to the register entry, and check the scope covers the process (e.g. "PET hot-wash recycling") and the site. We put certificate numbers on our paperwork precisely so you can do this without asking us. If any supplier's paperwork resists that check, do not buy from them — including us.
