Best Buy secures TRUE zero-waste certification across US supply chain

US consumer electronics retailer Best Buy has announced that 29 of its supply chain facilities have achieved TRUE (Total Resource Use and Efficiency) certification. Administered by the Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI), the certification recognises sites that successfully divert at least 90% of their waste from landfills, incinerators, and the environment over a 12-month period.

The achievement highlights a growing corporate commitment to circular economy principles within logistics networks. Best Buy met the standard by implementing comprehensive recycling programmes, redesigning packaging to minimise single-use materials, and collaborating with waste contractors to track material flows. The retailer's efforts focused heavily on cardboard, plastic film, and electronic waste, which represent the bulk of its supply chain byproducts.

For UK waste management companies and Turkish recyclers, this development underscores the shifting expectations of multinational brands. As US-headquartered firms expand their environmental, social, and governance (ESG) targets globally, the standards they apply domestically—such as TRUE certification—are increasingly being written into European service level agreements. UK waste contractors must prepare for more rigorous auditing and reporting requirements from corporate clients seeking to replicate these zero-waste milestones.

For Turkish polymer recyclers, this corporate drive to eliminate waste translates into a long-term demand for high-quality, traceable recycled resins. As global brands seek to close the loop on their packaging, they require reliable partners who can process post-commercial films, such as LDPE stretch wrap, back into circular packaging solutions.

A practical takeaway from Best Buy's milestone is the critical role of data verification. Achieving zero-waste credentials requires robust, third-party audited data. UK and Turkish operators who proactively invest in transparent digital tracking systems for commercial waste streams will position themselves as preferred partners for multinational corporations aiming for similar certifications.
