For UK waste companies, the conference serves as a critical checkpoint for regulatory readiness. With EPR fees and reporting requirements now active, packaging converters and waste managers are facing intense pressure to improve material traceability and segregation. Discussions at the event highlight a collective push toward higher-quality domestic sorting to meet both UK circular economy targets and stricter international export standards.
Why this matters is down to feedstock quality. As the UK harmonises its municipal collection systems, the volume of clean, single-stream plastics—particularly HDPE and PET—is expected to rise. However, the administrative burden of EPR compliance is also increasing operational costs for UK material recovery facilities (MRFs), forcing a reassessment of downstream supply chains.

Improved sorting under the UK's new collection regimes should theoretically yield cleaner, less contaminated bales, reducing the risk of customs rejections at Turkish ports. Conversely, UK exporters must ensure strict compliance with both domestic EPR reporting and Annex VII export regulations to maintain seamless trade.

UK waste suppliers must ensure their output meets the higher purity thresholds demanded by both incoming UK regulations and Turkish import specifications, as tolerance for mixed or contaminated plastic fractions continues to decline.
