EOS launches high-volume recycling system for non-reusable printer cartridges

2 Kasım 2026 · Recycling Today

Environmental Office Solutions (EOS) has launched a dedicated high-volume recycling system for non-reusable laser printer cartridges. The operational setup is capable of processing more than 1.2 million pounds (approximately 540 tonnes) of material each month, addressing a technically difficult waste stream comprised of mixed engineering polymers, residual toner powders, and metallic components.

Laser printer cartridges have long presented a persistent recovery challenge within commercial office and electronic waste streams. When cartridges cannot be refilled or remanufactured due to mechanical wear or broken housing, they historically defaulted to landfill or energy-from-waste incinerators. Industrial-scale mechanical shredding combined with automated post-shred separation allows operators to isolate metals and capture high-value technical polymers—such as acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), high-impact polystyrene (HIPS), and polycarbonate blends—retaining these materials within secondary supply chains.

For UK waste management companies handling office clear-outs and waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) streams, high-capacity processing technologies demonstrate that complex multi-material consumables can be diverted from thermal recovery without incurring disproportionate gate fees. For Turkish recyclers and compounders sourcing technical plastic scrap from European supply networks, improvements in automated disassembly and shredding highlight how pure polymer fractions can be recovered from contaminated assemblies. Furthermore, as corporate sustainability regulations in the UK and EU mandate stricter lifecycle reporting, diverting complex durable goods into mechanical recycling channels provides verifiable carbon reductions for waste handlers and recyclers reporting Scope 3 emissions.

Practical Takeaway: Waste collectors and material reprocessors should review incoming commercial e-waste streams to isolate multi-material polymer assemblies early, ensuring engineering plastics are routed to specialist shredding facilities rather than general residual waste streams.
