Envalior and Secara partner on chemical recycling for automotive resins

Global engineering materials producer Envalior has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with chemical recycling specialist Secara to collaborate on incorporating post-consumer recycled (PCR) content into high-performance automotive resins. The partnership will focus on testing and validating chemical recycling pathways to produce technical-grade polymers that meet the stringent safety and performance standards of the automotive industry.

Historically, engineering plastics used in vehicles have relied almost exclusively on virgin polymers. Mechanical recycling often struggles to achieve the purity and mechanical properties required for under-the-bonnet or structural automotive components. By utilising Secara’s chemical recycling technology, which depolymerises plastic waste back into its chemical precursors, the companies aim to deliver PCR-content resins that perform identically to virgin materials.
